Inside the VERISOL Clinical Data: What the Skin Studies Actually Found

Two randomized, placebo-controlled trials form the core of the VERISOL research: Proksch et al. (2014a) on wrinkle reduction and dermal matrix synthesis, and Proksch et al. (2014b) on skin elasticity and hydration.

VERISOL®, the patented Bioactive Collagen Peptide developed by GELITA and studied specifically for skin elasticity, is one of the few collagen ingredients with genuine data behind the marketing, so we wanted to go deep into the research. Here’s what each study actually did, and what it actually found.

Study One: VERISOL® Bioactive Collagen Peptide and Wrinkle Reduction (Proksch et al., 2014a)

This study, conducted at the Department of Dermatology, University of Kiel, Germany, enrolled 114 women aged 45 to 65 in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled design.¹ Participants received either 2.5 grams of VERISOL® or a placebo once daily for 8 weeks, with 57 women in each group. Researchers measured eye wrinkle volume using a 3D optical imaging device at baseline, after 4 weeks, after 8 weeks, and again 4 weeks after the last dose to check whether any benefit persisted after supplementation stopped.

The results: eye wrinkle volume decreased by more than 7% after 4 weeks and by roughly 20% after 8 weeks, compared to placebo, with some individual participants showing reductions as high as 49.9%.² Remarkably, wrinkle volume was still reduced by 11.5% four weeks after women stopped taking VERISOL®, suggesting the effect wasn’t simply a temporary, in-the-moment change. A subgroup analysis using suction blister biopsies found that procollagen type I increased by 65% and elastin by 18% after 8 weeks of intake compared to placebo, giving a direct biological explanation for the visible wrinkle changes.³

Study Two: VERISOL® Bioactive Collagen Peptide and Skin Elasticity (Proksch et al., 2014b)

This second study looked at a different set of outcomes: skin elasticity and hydration.⁴ Sixty-nine women aged 35 to 55 were randomized to receive either 2.5 grams or 5 grams of VERISOL®, or a placebo, daily for 8 weeks. Elasticity was measured on the forearm using a cutometer, an instrument that applies gentle suction and records how quickly skin recovers its shape, while hydration was measured with a corneometer, which assesses water content directly.

Both groups showed statistically significant improvements in skin elasticity compared to placebo, along with a hydration increase of roughly 26% compared to placebo, and about 28% compared to each group’s own baseline.⁵ Notably, both the 2.5 gram and 5 gram doses produced meaningful results, which is part of why 2.5 grams became the standard studied dose for VERISOL® going forward.

Why These Two VERISOL® Studies, Taken Together, Matter

Individually, each study demonstrates one piece of skin health: wrinkle depth and dermal matrix synthesis in the first, elasticity and hydration in the second. Together, they cover the three outcomes most people actually care about when they think about skin aging: wrinkle volume and depth, skin elasticity and hydration; and they do it using objective, instrument-based measurement rather than participant self-reporting. This is a meaningfully higher standard than most collagen research in the broader supplement category, where self-reported “skin felt smoother” surveys are far more common than 3D optical imaging or cutometer data.

Why VERISOL®'s Bioactive Collagen Peptide Data Holds Up to Scrutiny

It's important to be precise about the boundaries of this research. Both studies were conducted using VERISOL® specifically, at defined doses, over defined timeframes. It's also important to note that neither study establishes that any collagen peptide at any dose will produce these results, and neither claims permanent, one-time change; the benefits were measured during and shortly after 8 weeks of consistent daily use, which lines up with what's understood about how collagen turnover actually works in the skin. This kind of specificity, naming the exact peptide, the exact dose, and the exact outcome measured, is the standard every ingredient claim should be held to, and it's the same standard we hold every Monna formula to. It's also a large part of why VERISOL® is treated as one of the more credible entries in the collagen category.
